Young journalists make the news

YOUNG pupils from Parklands High School, Liverpool, will be taking to the streets armed with cameras and microphones to create their own news as part of an exciting new learning project taking place today (Wednesday, June 25).

The group of Year 8 pupils, aged 12 and 13, will have access to cutting edge broadcast technology when they join media experts at Parklands City Learning Centre to experience first hand cutting-edge television equipment including portable blue and green screens and chromakey technology.

The session will see them recording their own location news reports then returning to the studio to create news bulletins and weather reports and putting together a Parklands news programme.

The equipment is being provided by Cheshire-based Reflecmedia, the UK's leading innovator in chromakey technology, who hope their equipment will encourage a new generation to consider a future in media technology.

Manager Mike Dagnall said: “The world of education is changing so much and technology has an increasingly important role to play in developing skills in a range of subjects including media arts, IT, languages and citizenship.

“We thought this would be a great opportunity to give a group of pupils a chance to experience first hand the excitement of producing their own short television news programme so they can understand the role of technology in everyday life.”

Reflecmedia develops and produces a range of unique chromakey systems and fabrics – the type favoured by young wizards to help them disappear!

The session runs from 11.30am to 3.30pm at Parklands CLC, Conleach Road, Liverpool, L24 0TY.
