MoViSet – create your world your way

Ever wondered what lies behind the movie technology that enables young magicians to disappear under a cloak or the swingometers and weather reporting graphics you see on TV?

The answer is MoViSet, a virtual ‘studio in a box’ software system developed by Cheshire-based Reflecmedia.

MoViSet is a real-time 3D rendering engine for the creation and playout of broadcast quality virtual sets and backgrounds in studio environments anywhere.

And if used in conjunction with other Reflecmedia technologies, for example Chromatte, ChromaFlex and LiteRing, it can provide the highest standard virtual studio virtually anywhere.

MoViSet – an overview

MoViSet is a 3D rendering engine for the creation and playout of broadcast quality virtual sets and backgrounds in studio environments anywhere and is available in three packages from entry level to high-end professional broadcast production.

It supports one physical camera and two virtual cameras – one for foreground tickers and text and one to allow virtual camera movements within the set.

MoViSet has two distinct interfaces:

• Design and edit mode
• Playout mode

The intuitive design and edit function is based on building and using a traditional set and gives users access to a broad range of existing virtual studio sets or allows import of externally created sets. In addition there is an assets repository where individual items like tables and chairs can be selected and put into sets.

The playout mode is used when transmitting and, where applicable, provides control within the set while ‘live’.

This truly is a finger-tip controlled virtual studio in a box.

MoViSet – entry level

Entry level live MoViSet has finite per pixel lighting, basic textures and materials. Static foreground text anti-aliasing and text kerning are included as standard.

The design and edit interface allows for use of geometries, static 3D text and stills and .fbx is supported to enable the use of 3D design packages like SketchUp.

MoViSet – broadcast level

The high end broadcast MoViSet package provides additional creative scope through enhanced support of local and spot lighting, additional lighting effects, mirrors and hard shadows.

The broadcast package also has events and animations enabled which allows for a much more engaging set, controlled through the playout interface.

Foreground text is enhanced with a tickers capability that can be driven from an external data source and includes left-to-right and right-to-left text ticker, plus credit rollers and teletype text box.

The virtual camera is supported by billboarding and animation which allows realistic virtual camera moves with the talent in shot.

MoViSet – motion

The ultimate MoViSet package provides all the features of the other packages plus video-in-scene through live SDI video in via an add-on card and mpeg streaming from disk. Quality is further enhanced with CG effects and includes reflections, refractions and soft shadows, fur, marble, toon, wood, bump mapping and glass.
